WHAT IS A CSA SHARE?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA share is (at its most basic) a bag of seasonal veggies. Each bag contains 6-8 items of seasonal produce from the farm. Beyond just the vegetables, becoming a CSA member is also about building a community around local food production. We keep you updated about the farm and try to help keep things exciting in the kitchen by sharing recipes and cooking tips for our produce. Soon, we'll also begin to host annual CSA-Member-only events at the farm.

IS YOUR PRODUCE ORGANIC?

We farm using only OMRI-approved inputs and practices. We strongly believe in providing our community with clean, fresh food. We don’t want to eat food covered in harsh pesticides, and so have built a farming system that leans on bio-intensive, regenerative practices which include cover cropping, timed tillage, compost mulching, integrated pest management, and more. We are not certified organic, but we are organic in practice.

WHAT VEGETABLES COME IN A SHARE?

We grow over 100 varieties of vegetables here at Vrdnt! When you are scheduled for a CSA share, you will receive a reminder email the day before listing the bag's contents which can help you meal plan. If you’re new to Texas seasonality, you can check our Instagram to see what types of crops we’re currently picking- this will give you a good clue as to what's in our shares at any given moment. And if you need ideas on what to cook, check out our blog. Every other week we post a Recipe Roundup that lists our favorite recipes and cooking tips coinciding with the farm's harvest.

FLEXIBLE PICKUP OPTION VS. WEEKLY SUBSCRIPTION: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

The Flexible Pickup Option is best for anyone who wants to be part of a CSA but may not want or need a bag of veggies every week. With this option, you buy 4 credits that can be booked at your convenience at the BOOK FLEXIBLE PICKUPS page. First, select your pickup location preference, then select the date you want to pick up on. You may book a share, or edit your booking up to 36 hours before the pickup starts. (For example, the Sour Duck pickup starts at 10 am so you can edit that booking up to 10 pm on Thursday evening). Each share is booked separately and you will get a confirmation e-mail for each share you book.

All the weekly pickup options are best for voracious veggie eaters or big families who want vegetables every week. These plans automatically schedule you for a weekly pickup at the location you selected. These plans are billed weekly, unless you cancel or ask us to pause your membership.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO USE MY FLEX PICK UP SHARES?

You have six months from the time of purchase to use your flexible pick up shares. That's 26 weeks to use 4 boxes. You got this!

HOW DO I EDIT OR CANCEL MY FLEXIBLE PICKUP BOOKINGS ONLINE?

To edit your booking: (after you are logged in) Click on the down arrow menu icon on top right of the screen. (right next to the picture icon) Navigate to the "CSA Bundle Bookings" option on the menu. (Or just follow this LINK ) There you will see all upcoming booked shares. On the right side, there is an option to reschedule or cancel. You can do either of those on the website up to 36hours before the pickup begins.

Of course, if you have any issues you can always e-mail us directly and we can handle it on the back end. csa@vrdnt.farm

I AM GOING TO BE OUT OF TOWN, CAN I PUT A HOLD ON MY BOX?

With our flexible booking option, you can just book vegetables for the weeks when you’re in the mood to chop chop! If you have a weekly subscription and need to postpone, shoot us an email. csa@vrdnt.farm

CAN I JUST DONATE MY VEGGIES INSTEAD OF POSTPONING?

Yes! If you’d like to donate one (or several) of your veggie shares to our community partner, Saffron Trust, simply email us and we’ll take care of the rest. If you’d like to purchase additional veggies to share with our community, you can do that here.

CAN I VISIT THE FARM?

Several times a year, we open the farm gates to the community either in the form of a tour, farm dinner, workshop, or volunteer day. The best way to learn about these opportunities is to join our newsletter (link on the home page) and follow us on social media. If you’re the adventurous type, you can also book a night to camp on Vrdnt Farm via Hipcamp.
